This page provides a brief overview of currently
running or soon-to-be-running DMT monitors. Each monitor provides (or
is
supposed to provide) more detailed documentation, accessible from the "spi
page" that monitors the monitors running on the Hanford and
Livingston
DMT workstations.
At the bottom of this page are additional links
related
to the DMT figures of merit and infrastructure.
Background Monitors under the
Control of the Process Manager
(nominally running continuously during / between data runs)
Performance Characterization (steady-state
monitoring):
- BicoMon (S. Penn) - Displays and records
bicoherence quantities
for requested channels & bands.
- Blrms (E. Daw) - Displays and records
band-limited
RMS (New_Seis_Blrms
looks only at seismic channels; LXO_ifo_blrms looks at AS_Q) --
Obsolete?
- HistCompr (J. Zweizig) - Histograms filtered
data -
visible
in DMT Viewer (program called IFO_Hist).
- LineMonitor (S. Klimenko) - Tracks specified
lines
in several
IFO channels, also reports detected lines above threshold SNR. Several
different versions typically running, looking at different channels.
- MultiVolt (D. Sigg) - Monitors line voltage
amplitude/phase,
including harmonics.
- NoiseFloorMon (R. Grosso / S. Mukherjee) -
Monitors median-based band-limited noise floors, variances, and
large excursions.
- PSLMon / RMSBands / DataQual (J. Zweizig) -
PSLMon is comprehensive
suite of tools. RMSBands and DataQual are programs that record
band-limited
RMS in selected channels.
- PulsarMon (G. Santostasi) - New monitor that
produces figures of merit for the
pulsar search, including sensitivity to ellipticities of known and
possible rotating neutron stars and time required at present
sensitivity to reach spin-down limits on known pulsars.
- SenseMonitor (P. Sutton) - Estimates seeing
range
to binary
inspiral of NS-NS system (1.4 solar masses each). Uses strength of 1kHz
calibration line to rescale the open-loop gain and sensing function for
accurate tracking of the interferometer calibration.
- StochMon (M. Cenac / B. O'Reilly / J. Whelan) -
New Monitor that produces
figures of merit for the stochastic search, mainly the sensitivity to
gravitationa.
Transient Phenomena (glitches, state transitions)
- Absglitch (R. Rahkola/M. Ito) -
Soon-to-be-discontinued version
of GlitchMon, allowing for absolute (not strictly adaptive) thresholds.
- BurstMon (S. Klimenko / A. Sazonov) - BurstMon is
a new
monitor that produces several figures of merit relevant to the burst
search:
h_rss value at 50% efficiency (strain/sqrt(Hz)); non-stationarity
measures; and
glitch rates./characteristics.
- DewarMon (E. Harstad) - Detects seismic glitches
from sudden creaks of liquid nitrogen dewars.
- EqMon (R. Rahkola) - Earthquake monitor with
dedicated audible
alarm (not enabled as of mid-December 2002).
- GlitchMon (M. Ito) - Looks for sudden glitches in
hundreds
of channels (now allows for both adaptive and absolute thresholds).
Several
different versions running typically, looking at different sets of
channels.
- InspiralMon (D. Brown) - Displays inspiral
search
analysis triggers found by quasi-online ONASYS programs running on
local observatory clusters.
- LockLoss (D. Chin) - Displays and records all
lock transitions,
displays IFO state vector in abbreviated form.
- PlaneMon (E. Goetz) -
detects low-flying propeller aircraft from microphone data
and reports back estimate aircraft speeds, rest-frame fundamental
frequency, and distance of closest approach to each microphone
channel. Spectograms for candidates are archived.
- PSLMon / ZGlitch / DataQual (J. Zweizig) -
PSLMon
is comprehensive
suite of tools. ZGlitch and DataQual are programs based on PSLMon that
record trigger rates on filtered data channels for exceeding N sigma.
Threshold
based on running, weighted mean and standard deviation.
- PTMon (N. Zotov) - Looks for transients, using
a
robust algorithm
borrowed from the UGSG.
- SegGener (J. Zweizig) - Generates "segments"
for
the meta-database
of "good data" based on the IFO state vector.
- ShapeMon (S. Marka) - Looks for channel-hopping
via
sudden
gross spectral changes (seismic channels for now - may be generalized
in
future). Has interface to EPICS with MEDM display on main "site map".
- Station (J. Zweizig) - Measures non-stationarity
(short-term variations in noise floor) and provides a spectrum of
the variations.
- SuspensionMon (B. Stubbs / R. Rahkola) - Looks
for
out-of-bounds
behavior in suspensions channels (recall the uncontrolled side motion
seen
in H1 during S1, leading to "heartbeat").
- WaveMon (S. Klimenko) - Looks for correlated
glitches
between pairs of data channels, using a robust percentile-based
algorithm
for identifying statistically significant correlations.
Data Acquisition / Timing Validation
- BitTest (J. Zweizig) - Looks for stuck ADC bits
and
saturations.
- IRIG-B (S. Marka) - Checks absolute timing with
coarse resolution.
- TimeMon (S. Marka) - Checks relative timing with
fine resolution
Miscellaneous
- SpectrumArchiver (T. Olson) - Records spectra
for
many data
channels once per hour for retrieval by the DTT.
Background Monitors under Development
(private code running sporadically)
Performance Characterization (steady-state
monitoring):
- GainMon (A. Rogan / S. Bose) - Monitors the
unity-gain frequency of primary longitudinal servo loops, primarily
the DARM loop.
Transient Phenomena (glitches, state transitions)
- QMon (J. Cao / S. Chatterji) - Creates
spectrograms of gravitational wave data channel and auxiliary
channels, based on Q-transform wavelet decomposition, for
large-outlier glitches.
Interactive Monitors and Miscellaneous Tools
(meant for foreground running and stopping on demand)
- BicoViewer (S. Penn) - Measures
bicoherence
within
a channel, or cross-bicoherence among 2-3 channels.
- Listen (J. Zweizig) - Plays a channel on a
sound
card on
card-equipped workstation.
- RayleighMonitor (P. Sutton) -
Time-frequency
display of spectral
power and "rayleighness" - standard deviation of power over mean power
- measures non-Gaussianity.
- Sigma (A. Kansagra) - Tool for
simultaneously
displaying
time series, spectra and histograms for a finite time interval.
- SpecMon (T. Bodiya) - Tool for tracking and
histogramming
band-limited RMS for arbitrary channels.
- TrigDsply (J. Zweizig) - Tool for
displaying data
(filtered,
if desired) corresponding to known trigger.
Figures of merit
A set
of figures
of merit based on DMT monitor information have been put together
for
viewing during data runs to assess interferometer performance.
